The East End real eastate mogul has a knack for snapping up choice spots. She owns 18 properties in the Hamptons, grouped into land parcels. In addition to her breathtaking $30 million Tower Hill estate spread over eight lots on 20 acres in Bridgehampton, Brinkley owns two adjacent North Haven beach houses and a bungalow in Sag Harbor, as well as an oceanfront office in Watermill and a vacation villa in the Carribean. "She's had a very good eye for real estate and bought very special properties," says Brinkley's broker, Susan Breitenbach, who is currently marketing the Tower Hill property.

People ask all the time whether her high-profile clients plans to sell her other properties. "It's prime real estate. She bought a lot of waterfront, and anything like that beautiful North Haven waterfront on a few acres of property.... that's what really goes up in value the most out here."

And even as housing market woes are now reaching the once-untouchable Hamptons (overall values dropped 11% from 2007), Brinkley's holdings can easily weather the storm. "We're all going through a somewhat rocky period right now with the economy, but the long-term outlook for real estate out here is still good," says Michael Braverman, editor-at-large at Hamptons magazine. "She's bought in the right locations, and if she sells them off when each one is at peak value, she'll do very well."

Wearing a battery pack with no protection whatsoever, I went to a party for John Leguizamo's Hamptons magazine cover story and asked the co-star of The Happening how he managed to act as if the foliage were Charles Manson. "You've had bad weed," he replied, smirking. "It's terrifying!" So true—but even scarier, what was M. Night Ramalama-dingdong like to work with? A complete pill? "Shyama-lama-dingdong," Leguizamo corrected. "The other one is a holiday. If we were in Denmark, we'd be in trouble!" Pause, "But I enjoyed him. He's got this wonderful laugh, and then he gets deep and philosophical. At the end of shooting, you know what he gave crew members? A trip to Europe! It was like Oprah's Big Give." And what did Leguizamo get, pray tell? "A great part with a great monologue!" he said, beaming. Better than a potted plant.

The buzz around Christie Brinkley's divorce is hotter than the crowd at Dune - the Hamptons' hippest club.

The tony vacation spot is no stranger to A-list celebs and saucy scandals during the summer months, but residents think this latest case could rival the best of them - even eclipsing the Lizzie Grubman saga.

"It is already the talk of the town," said Couri Hay, society editor of Hamptons magazine. "There are more scandalous details that will come out. Everyone can't wait to hear all the details."

The leggy glamour gal filed for divorce in 2006 when she discovered her hubby, Peter Cook, 47, was two-timing her with Diana Bianchi, his then-18-year-old assistant.

Despite last-ditch efforts by lawyers to keep the case, which goes to trial next Wednesday, out of the public eye, the Uptown Girl's pals are keen to see the case go to court, where they believe Cook will finally get what he deserves.

"Friends of Christie's are eager for this to go to trial so that the full extent of Peter's abuse will be exposed," Hay said.

Billy Joel said he's in his ex-wife's corner.

"Of course I wish her good luck," he said. "She's my daughter's mother and I wish her good luck."

Cook was seen buying booze in Sag Harbor on Monday and also has been seen showing off his newest girlfriend, Suzanne Shaw, around town.

The pair wine and dine at a pricey waterfront Italian restaurant, Tutto il Giorno, several times a week, according to waitstaff.

Brinkley, 54, has been keeping a low profile and did not speak to reporters outside her Sag Harbor home yesterday.

"People are saying they're going to follow it very closely because they want to know what this is about," said Dan Rattinger, owner and publisher of Dan's Papers, a lifestyle magazine.

The National Enquirer isn't letting up on John Edwards just because he's not running for President. Last fall, The Enquirer claimed that former Edwards campaign staffer Rielle Hunter had confided to a friend that she was pregnant with Edwards' child. Hunter and Edwards denied an affair, with Hunter identifying her unborn child's father as Andrew Young, an Edwards campaign operative. Now that Hunter has given birth, The Enquirer is challenging her and Edwards to submit to a DNA test. "We're keeping an eye on her," says Enquirer editor David Perel. Don't count on their taking The Enquirer's bait. As Edwards told us in November: "The story ... is made up."

May 27, 2008 — THE boldface−infested Hamptons were already in full swing over Memorial Day weekend with bashes all across the East End. Model/actress Molly Sims kicked off her summer with a 35th birthday party that French Connection threw for her at The Estate in Sag Harbor on Saturday. She blew out candles on her giant birthday cake that was infused with Bulleit Bourbon, straight from her Kentucky hometown.

Sims clung to boyfriend Justin Chatwin , who earlier went kite surfing and disappeared for nearly three hours, alarming his friends. "He eventually found his way back to land," said one relieved pal.

Meanwhile, Leonardo DiCaprio drank Jay−Z 's Ace of Spades champagne and was surrounded by models at the opening of Dune in Southampton, while DJ Reach spun for the crowd.

"Leo was sitting in a corner, with his South Carolina University hat pulled extremely low so no one could see him at his table," said one attendee. "He didn't stay long, maybe an hour. He looked irritated because it was too packed and too many girls were all over him."

In East Hampton, restaurateur Jeffrey Chodorow and Epic Records' president Charlie Walk threw a dinner for the opening of Chodorow's new Kobe Beach Club. Hamptons magazine publisher Jason Binn stood up on a chair and toasted the duo. Joel Madden flew in for the dinner and chatted with Maggie Rizer , Bethenny Frankel , British singing sensation Estelle , Sam Champion , Sade Baderinwa and Intermix founders Khajak and Haro Keledjian . Later, Estelle performed at club Lily Pond.

On Sunday, convicted tax cheat Wesley Snipes dropped in on a private party at a Water Mill mansion where he danced and drank until the wee hours. "He had no concerns," said our spy. "He was laughing and telling jokes and was loving life. Everyone said 'hi' and no one brought up the fact that he faces up to three years in the slammer." Michael Lohan was there, too.

Magazines have parties for many reasons: high-profile new hires, closing an issue, redesign, holidays, etc, etc, etc. But it mostly boils down to publicity. Rare is the magazine that parties just to party, as rock and roll as this industry might seem. Aside from the usual (but usually tasteful) integrated sponsorship deals, both Gotham and Hamptons magazines fit that bill. Publicity and photos good for a page or two in the next issue are part of the bargain. But seeing Jason Binn work the crowd last night, seeing how he opens his home several weekends over the summer to Hamptonites young and old, you can tell he just wants everyone to have a good time. Maybe it’s the business, but that don’t bother me none. What in this world is worth doing if you can’t throw a party to celebrate it?

Thanks to Isabella Rossellini for gracing the cover of the magazine/making it all happen. And thanks to Ketel One for giving me new ideas for my upcoming appearance on the hit Japanese show, Crazy Extreme Drink Making Explosion!!!

I don’t know if you can see it in this picture, but each of these bottles is really an ice sculpture. Through each bottle snakes a plastic tube down which the bartenders poured the finished custom drinks. I had a white grape martini. Safe to say my second drink was a plain, old Ketel + tonic.

Last night outside Nikki Midtown, a chi chi disco imported almost entirely intact from Miami Beach, circa 1997, a swarm of paparazzi descended like locusts on an empty red carpet in anticipation of Kelly Ripa’s arrival. When the Regis sidekick finally arrived, for some reason breathless from the limo ride, she greeted her shutterbug worshippers with the practiced aplomb of an ex-soapster-turned-daytime-TV-host. Ripa, whose perky and deeply tanned mug graces the September cover of Hamptons Magazine, was the guest of honor at a party toasting not only her, but the posh publications' final issue of the season.

Inside Nikki, CEO/emcee Jason Binn introduced Ripa to the throng comprised of Manhattan's glitterati and perhaps more than a few wannabees. Ripa talked about her love of the Hamptons and also took a moment to thank the person who airbrushed her cover photo. Refreshingly candid, or predictably stale—you decide. Either way, it got a laugh, albeit a truncated one.

Canned disco music from the early 90s blared at ear-deafening levels; guests retreated to the sanctuary of the Manhattan streets and got for their troubles a supersmile Quikee that's supposed to whiten your teeth in no time.

Celebrity chef Katie Lee Joel and Shire Pharmaceuticals today announced that Katie will be conducting a cooking demonstration at the 34th Annual American Association of Kidney Patients (AAKP) Convention in St. Louis, Mo. this afternoon for patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). During the demonstration, Katie will demonstrate to patients and their family members how to cook recipes from Shire's 2007 edition of the Kidney Friendly Comfort Foods cookbook. Additionally, attendees will be able to sample some of Katie's recipes, as well as receive a complimentary copy of the new cookbook, which will be available for free after the event by visiting http://www.FOSRENOL.com or by calling (866) 896-6152.

kidney disease is an issue close to Katie's heart because her grandfather was a dialysis patient for several years. Although the family was worried about his health, her grandfather was more concerned with the restrictions the condition put on his diet. To help keep him healthy and happy, Katie and her grandmother adapted many of their family's traditional recipes so that Katie's grandfather and the rest of the family could still eat the meals that they loved together.

"I know how difficult managing kidney disease can be, which is why I was so excited to contribute my recipes to Shire's second volume of the Kidney Friendly Comfort Foods cookbook," said Katie. "Through this cookbook and today's demonstration, I want to show patients that cooking kidney- and diabetes-friendly foods is not a sentence to boring food, and that these tasty meals can be enjoyed by the entire family."

Katie will be demonstrating two of her kidney- and diabetes-friendly recipes at the AAKP meeting today from 3:45 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. (CDT). During the event, two lucky audience members will be chosen to help Katie prepare these two dishes, featured in the Kidney Friendly Comfort Foods, Volume II cookbook, which are appropriate for patients on dialysis, as well as those with diabetes. In addition to the cooking demonstration, attendees also will hear from nephrologist William F. Finn, M.D., who will discuss managing CKD Stage 5 with a combination of diet, dialysis and phosphate-binder therapy, and renal dietitian and diabetes educator Marianne Hutton, who will provide kidney- and diabetes-friendly dietary tips. Through the cooking demonstration and educational program, Katie and these experts will show patients on dialysis - including those who also have diabetes - and their caregivers that they can still enjoy delicious foods, even on a modified diet.

"My dialysis patients are always struggling to manage their diets, which is even more challenging for those who also have diabetes and are subject to additional dietary modifications than those with CKD alone. I was delighted to have the opportunity to participate in the Kidney Friendly Comfort Foods program," said Marianne. "The new cookbook and this event are valuable resources that can help patients take an active role in managing their conditions, while offering tasty, appropriate recipes the entire family can enjoy."

Chronic kidney disease is a growing problem in the United States. In fact, approximately 20 million Americans have some form of kidney disease and almost 500,000 have developed CKD Stage 5 - the most severe form of kidney disease - and require dialysis. Nearly half of newly diagnosed kidney patients on dialysis developed the disease because of diabetes. It is important for people with CKD Stage 5 to follow a low phosphorus diet, because most dialysis patients will develop hyperphosphatemia (high serum phosphorus levels in the blood). Excess phosphorus in the blood can be associated with serious consequences, including mineral deposits in the heart and blood vessels, bone disease and even death. Because phosphorus is found in so many foods, patients often cannot reach target blood phosphorus levels through dietary restriction and dialysis alone, and they generally treat hyperphosphatemia by taking phosphate binders, such as FOSRENOL(R) (lanthanum carbonate), at meals and snacks. Phosphate binders "soak up" phosphorus in the gastrointestinal tract before it can be absorbed into the blood, thereby helping patients maintain target blood phosphorus levels. "As part of our ongoing commitment to patients with CKD Stage 5, Shire is developing several resources to help patients and their families overcome the challenges associated with following a kidney-friendly diet. Kidney Friendly Comfort Foods, Volume II and today's cooking demonstration are just two of many tools Shire is offering the CKD Stage 5 community this year to help patients better manage their health," said Joseph Schlitz, Shire, Vice President, U.S. Renal Commercial Operations.

Hyperphosphatemia is a difficult condition to treat because it requires patients to follow a special diet, attend dialysis sessions and comply with a prescribed binder therapy regimen that may require up to 12 pills a day. However, patients with hyperphosphatemia may be able to reduce their pill burden to as few as one tablet with each meal with treatments such as FOSRENOL. (Dosing based on as few as three tablets per day. Number of meals per day may vary. To achieve certain doses, additional tablets may be required.)

To obtain your free copy of the 2007 Kidney Friendly Comfort Foods, Volume II: Eating Well for Chronic Kidney Disease Patients, Including Those With Diabetes cookbook, please visit http://www.FOSRENOL.com or call (866) 896-6152.

About the American Association of Kidney Patients (AAKP)

AAKP is a voluntary patient organization, which, for more than 35 years, has been dedicated to improving the lives of fellow kidney patients and their families by helping them deal with the physical, emotional and social impact of kidney disease.

The programs offered by AAKP inform and inspire patients and their families to better understand their condition and adjust more readily to their circumstances.

FOSRENOL(R)
FOSRENOL is indicated to reduce serum phosphate in patients with end stage renal disease (ESRD).
FOSRENOL is an effective, non-calcium, phosphate binder that reduces high phosphorus levels in ESRD patients. FOSRENOL is formulated as an easy-to-use, unflavored, chewable-only tablet that can be taken without water, an important consideration for ESRD patients who must restrict their fluid intake.
FOSRENOL is available in a broad range of dosage strengths, including the 500-milligram (mg), 750-mg and 1-gram (g) tablets. Patients taking FOSRENOL can achieve serum phosphorus target levels with as few as three tablets per day. (Dosing based on three meals per day. Number of meals per day may vary. To achieve certain doses, additional tablets may be required.)
FOSRENOL works by binding to dietary phosphorus in the gastrointestinal tract. Once bound, the FOSRENOL/phosphorus complex cannot pass into the bloodstream and is eliminated from the body, thereby decreasing mean serum phosphorus levels.
FOSRENOL has been clinically tested in more than 5,200 patients. Nearly 1,000 patients have been prescribed lanthanum carbonate for more than one year. Over 76,000 patients have been prescribed FOSRENOL. The long-term safety profile of FOSRENOL shows no evidence of toxicity at clinical doses. Trials involving patients treated with FOSRENOL showed sustained serum phosphorus reduction in a majority of patients.

Important Safety Information

The most common adverse events were gastrointestinal, such as nausea and vomiting, and generally abated over time with continued dosing. The most common side effects leading to discontinuation in clinical trials were gastrointestinal events (nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea). Other side effects reported in trials included dialysis graft complications, headache, abdominal pain and hypotension. Although studies were not designed to detect differences in risk of fracture and mortality, there were no differences demonstrated in patients treated with FOSRENOL compared to alternative therapy for up to three years. The duration of treatment exposure and time of observation in the clinical program were too short to conclude that FOSRENOL does not affect the risk of fracture or mortality beyond three years. While lanthanum has been shown to accumulate in the GI tract, liver, and bone in animals, the clinical significance in humans is unknown. Patients with acute peptic ulcer, ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease, or bowel obstruction were not included in FOSRENOL clinical studies. Caution should be used in patients with these conditions. FOSRENOL should not be taken by patients who are nursing or pregnant. FOSRENOL should not be taken by patients who are under 18 years of age.

Billy Joel can't enjoy concerts because he's too famous.

"I went to see Dave Matthews [Hampton Social @ Ross] concert, but I didn't get to hear that much of the show," Joel (r.) told us at a Hamptons magazine party Tuesday night. "I was trying to hang out and be a fly on the wall, but I kept getting accosted by fans wanting pictures, so I had to split. I felt kinda bad."

So what did he think of the concert series that he was a part of? "Well, usually private gigs kinda suck. The people aren't fans; they pay too much money; there's too many distractions and everyone's too cool to be enthusiastic. But [the Social] gig wasn't bad."

That doesn't mean the Piano Man would have forked over the $3,000 ticket price for the show, though. "I'd only pay that much for the Beatles or Jimi Hendrix," he quipped.

Joel was at the Hamptons mag party to help fete his wife, Katie Lee Joel, who recently graced the publication's cover. While mag owner Jason Binn led the introductions at the Hudson Hotel even, Joel also shared with us that he reads this column. "If I'm in there, I'll read it," he said. "Katie reads it all the time. I'm more of an editorial pages man myslef."

Katie, a chef by day, is no stranger to the celebrity lifestyle. She hosted "Top Chef" during season one and has a cookbook, "Comfort Table," coming out in 2008. But given her choice of things to do, she'd rather sit at home in her sweatpants and watch TV.

Said Katie: "We love 'Entourage.' We're glued to the TV set on Sunday nights at home."

Vanessa Williams says she's going to record a spot for an ID microchip manufacturer called HomeAgain, whose technology helped her recover the family pooch.

Enzo, their Yorkshire terrier, was dognapped on Memorial Day for just over a week. "It was a gorgeous, hot day and my son was marching in the parade, " she tells Hamptons magazine. "All of a sudden, we went from doing something that was the epitome of summer into hell for eight days. But I'm so happy he's back. Since we felt this way over our beloved, dog, now every time I see any kind of missing person it's that much more devastating. I'll never take anything for granted anymore." Celebrities feel things so deeply, don't they?

(NEW YORK) WHAT: Imperia’s Moscow Mule

WHY: While the name may conjure up visions of a snow-covered Kremlin, this refreshing cocktail is a perfect addition to any summer rooftop or beachside fête. In fact, VIPs at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Miami Swim sipped slews of the bubbly concoction poolside at The Raleigh and various fashion show after-parties at local hotspots like Nobu and Mokai. A light mixture of Imperia vodka, ginger ale, and fresh lime juice, it’s a simple recipe that will keep guests cool under the sweltering sunny skies. Pour 5 oz. of ginger ale (diet if you’re still watching that waistline, of course) over ice, add 1.7 oz. of Imperia, and a squeeze of lime. Garnish with a lime wedge and let the good times roll! Or order one up at the Gotham/Hamptons-hosted book launch party for Holly Peterson’s The Manny tonight at the Cornelia Day Resort roof deck.

PRICE: $35 (750 ml)

(NEW YORK) Donna Karan and Kimora Lee Simmons may at first appear to have little in common. Come Friday, they'll be united by a common premise: style. Both powerhouse designers grace the cover of this week's Hamptons magazine, the title's first-ever dual cover. Karan, naturally, is featured wearing pieces from her Urban Zen by Donna Karan collection (Simmons is clad in Marc Bouwer), and inside she tells the Niche Media title that her ideal way of living is "walking barefoot in the sand and never getting dressed." Karan also finds a unique way to address how her designs, largely inspired by New York women, have a medicinal tie to them. The designer, whose then-boss died of cancer the same week her daughter Gaby was born, whose mother died of cancer on the day of her fashion show, and whose artist husband Stephan Weiss also passed of cancer, said, "I always say to people, fashion is dressing people and philanthropy is addressing them."

Jason Binn does it big when he does it at all, which is often and big of him—doing it, that is. Hundreds of Hamptons residents, celebs, and friends of the magazine frolicked on glorious Dune Beach in Southampton on Sunday the 22nd for Hamptons Magazine’s annual clambake. The shimmering sun setting deep, deep in the west created a big-sky effect—pinks and blues exploded over the lobster tail, burger and dog-stuffed crowd.

At least, this is what we imagined it was like. The min team was late. We assume that the partygoers, though, were privy to the glorious brushstrokes of what we now can only believe to be the work of a benevolent god.

Ditto on the food. The lobster tails, with their rich texture and pungent aroma, are proof of what I am now convinced of is a benevolent god. And same on the burgers, cooked fresh on a charcoal grill, embers flying up into the bottomless beach night—benevolent god. And the drinks—blah blah, benevolent god.

A GREEK YOGURT THAT HAS been around for 81 years−−seven in the U.S.−−has placed its first ad ever in an eye−catching spot in this week's issue of New York Magazine.

Pages 2 and 3 contain full−page ads. The one on the left features a Tourneau watch. On the right, the watch is seen to have sunk into something white and thick, leaving its impression. A small product shot in the lower right−hand corner shows it to be Fage (fah−yay) yogurt.

Mark Tillinghast, senior vice president at Ogilvy, which designed the ad, says he's never worked on a food product "with such a remarkable point of difference." He is unapologetically enthusiastic about it, calling Fage yogurt "unbelievable" and "unlike any other yogurt" because of its texture, taste and thickness.

The partnership with Tourneau, which he says was no trouble setting up, is the "ultimate product demo," and showcases the fact that the yogurt is very thick.

Up until now, Fage has succeeded solely through word of mouth and buzz. And not without accolades. Last year, Ad Age named the company a top marketer for having produced $35 million in sales despite a lack of advertising.

Fage, the second−largest food producer in Greece, decided to advertise because "they have a sense of awareness," says Tillinghast. "They know that if people try it, they love it. They try it, they buy it."

A similar ad, paired with Honora pearls, is set to appear in New York Magazine as well as in Hamptons magazine. Nina M. Lentini edits Marketing Daily. Email her at nina@mediapost.com

“I feel bad for these poor people who decided to have dinner here at this time:” Jason Binn, helmer at Niche Media (which just formed a strategic partnership with other society life publishers Greenspun Media and Ocean Drive, by the way) on the mic at Madame Tongs at JL Beach Club in Southamton, referring to the outdoor diners whose meal was colored by the loud, summery music and the din of schmoozing at Binn’s latest bash.

To the min team, however, those diners were in a prime position to observe the socializing habits of the local fauna: bronzed men and women in oversized sunglasses wearing all white, or, for the females, clingy but flowing sundresses. We caught up with Cindi Cook, editor of the magazine, who was enjoying the beautiful weather, the glorious country sunset, but had a “personal” day on the horizon—“no matter how nice it is, I’m going to get things done tomorrow.”

We also talked with Binn a bit later. He was still on the mic, pointing out various celebrities in the crowd. He announced a contest that confused the min team, something involving a party-goer guessing the same number as he guessed—and the winner would get to be on James Lipton’s show, Inside the Actor’s Studio. The min team didn’t win—we’re bad at puzzles.

The min team left before we could find out what Kelsey/Camille Grammer (cover stars) were up to for the summer. We’re guessing the same as everybody else: barbecue, beers, beaches, bikinis, and…lots of calamine lotion.

Press Release

The three most prominent controlled-circulation publishers, Greenspun Media Group, Niche Media Holdings, and Ocean Drive Media Group, have announced an agreement to form a strategic partnership uniting the founders, Brian Greenspun, Jason Binn, and Jerry Powers. This partnership brings together the three luxury publishing companies and unifies the operations of the publications in the most prestigious network of city-specific magazines. This gives marketers a direct connection into each of America's wealthiest communities. The new entity will have a combined distribution of more than 750,000 and will provide advertisers access to the most affluent people in desirable markets across the U.S. With an average of 5.9 readers per copy, the titles reach more than 4.4 million readers.

The Greenspun luxury magazine portfolio includes City Center, Vegas, Venetian Style and Wynn; Niche Media's luxury magazine collection includes Aspen Peak, Boston Common, Capitol File, Gotham, Hamptons and Los Angeles Confidential; and Ocean Drive Media Group includes Art Basel, Atlanta Peach, Bal Harbour, Ocean Drive, Ocean Drive Espanol and Florida InsideOut. All of the titles will now operate under one umbrella as Niche Media.

The successful luxury, controlled-circulation publishing model that Jason Binn and Jerry Powers created 15 years ago with Ocean Drive magazine will now include a total of 16 publications. The management team will combine the strengths of Greenspun Luxury Group, Niche Media, and the Ocean Drive Media Group, a team that has achieved consistent growth in revenues, page counts, and staffing of approximately 20 percent every year since 1992. The united company will employ more than 300 full-time employees and produce more than 24,000 pages each year.

With the merger, advertisers now have a unique opportunity to connect to each of these 16 wealth markets in a distinctly refined style. Additionally, the company brings the brand to life through the execution of more than 500 dynamic A-list events across the country every year.

This collection of luxury lifestyle magazines celebrates the worlds of culture, fashion, fine dining, real estate, and nightlife, with the most prominent leaders of each community celebrating their hobbies and interests as contributors. These publications maintain a readership that is second to none by delivering readers with the highest disposable income. Through quantitative and qualitative analysis, advertisers are assured that the majority of Niche Media readers maintain at least $250,000 annual household incomes, own homes valued at more than $1 million, and have liquid assets in excess of $1 million.

"Jason and Jerry are both passionate about the category they invented," said Brian Greenspun. "This is a very exciting time for our publishing venture as we continue to build a world-class media company."

"These well-respected publishers and businessmen have established incredible properties that enable our media group to enter new markets more effectively in the United States and internationally, including Asia and Europe," added Greenspun Media Group President Michael T. Carr.

"We provide our advertising and marketing partners with a powerful and proven luxury magazine portfolio," said Jason Binn. "We have each developed nationally recognized publications that are locally relevant."

"This strategic partnership will make us the most powerful luxury publisher in the country," said Jerry Powers. "Ocean Drive Media Group's stable of readers and clients will now be able to simplify and amplify their access to a broader reach of the wealthiest segment of society."

It is easy to underestimate Jason Binn. He practically invites it.

An antic, smallish guy with one hand on a BlackBerry and the other on a digital camera, he is constantly roaming parties for his gossamer magazines like Gotham and Los Angeles Confidential, emitting a laugh that brings to mind nothing so much as Woody Woodpecker.

He may end up taking that laugh all the way to the bank. This week, Mr. Binn will announce that his magazine company, Niche Media, will merge with Greenspun Media Group of Las Vegas — which publishes Vegas, Wynn and Venetian Style, among other magazines — and Ocean Drive Media Group, which publishes Ocean Drive and Ocean Drive Español and several other magazines.

Mr. Binn has been in partnerships with both outfits, but the new company, which will retain the name Niche Media, will now be a network of 16 publications with a combined circulation of 750,000 and more than 300 employees, along with revenues expected to exceed $100 million. Michael T. Carr, president of the Greenspun Media Group, said that the deal, which included buying out previous investors, will create a national asset out of regional properties.

"We are able to offer, in a single conversation, a way to move the needle in multiple retail markets," he said. He said that international expansion into markets like Macao was very much part of the plan.

It's also a triumph for the worldview of Mr. Binn, 39, who is on very good terms with single name A-listers the world over and on terrible terms with the word "no."

True, there is a touch of the vulgarian to Mr. Binn — his naked worship of the rich and famous makes Robin Leach seem demure — but he will stop at nothing to promote his magazines, which also include Boston Common, Aspen Peak, Capitol File and Hamptons. "I still love what I am doing and I'm looking forward to the opportunities for growth that the merger will bring," Mr. Binn said.

In the fizzy world of Niche Media, the country is not at war, the champagne never runs out, and famous is as famous does. The magazines are less concerned with dour topics like income disparity than making sure you land on the right side of that divide.

Underneath it all, the magazines are a glossier version of the local weekly, a publication that feeds off familiarity and pride of place, only instead of seeing your neighbor holding a trophy in a picture of the Little League team he coached, you see his latest trophy wife.

That publishing model does not bring in a lot of revenue per page, but it yields fat, oversize magazines that have the kind of heft — plop value, if you will — that few national ones seem to manage anymore. During the height of the season, you'd need a wheelbarrow to carry Hamptons magazine to the beach, jammed as it is with ads, reflexively positive coverage of local restaurants and luminaries, and, of course, party snaps.

Those parties, with the myriad vodka sponsors and tiers of roped-off V.I.P. sections, are a fundamental part of the business, and their frequency often outpaces the publication schedules of the magazines themselves. Each event is a mass sales call, with potential clients showing up and getting their pictures taken with the famous — pictures that are then published with the financial support of advertisements bought by people who tend to be at such parties.

"The parties are the business," said Mark A. Edmiston, managing director of AdMedia Partners, who did some work for Mr. Binn several years ago. "Watching him work a room is like watching Derek Jeter play baseball."

At last year's American Magazine Conference at the Biltmore in Phoenix, I was going to have dinner with another reporter (O.K., it was Keith Kelly of The New York Post) and just before we were going to get together, he mentioned that Mr. Binn would be joining in. By the time I had finished rolling my eyes, Mr. Binn had booked a private dining room and assembled a group that included Cathleen Black, president of Hearst Magazines, Mitchell B. Fox, a group president of Condé Nast Publications, and Jack Kliger, chief executive of Hachette Filipacchi U.S.

Just about the time we all got seated and started looking over menus, Mr. Binn came through the doors with Senator Barack Obama, who was speaking the next day. No fees, no wranglers, no planning, just Mr. Binn and his Rolodex.

Ms. Black spoke for at least some of us when she grabbed a glass of wine for a toast and said, "Jason Binn, you are a force of nature."

Advertisers say that there is something beyond smoke and mirrors in Mr. Binn's approach.

"Jason is able to combine image, content and prestige, which is right up my alley," said Benny Shabtai, the president of Raymond Weil watches in the United States and owner of Di Modolo jewelers. Mr. Shabtai said that Condé Nast magazines were sufficient for his national needs, but that Mr. Binn's Niche Media titles were the only way he had found of having a reliable impact on a local market — which is sort of the idea.

"Jason has defined a place the publishing giants aren't interested in, and he works it brilliantly," said David Carey, a president at Condé Nast and the publishing director of Portfolio magazine. "There is something very endearing about him — the chutzpah and lack of pretense."

Mr. Binn has built a vertical out of the status obsession of both old and new money. People in the Hamptons may build their hedges high, but part of them wants the rest of the world to see just how fabulous their life is. Niche Media has tapped into the current need to live out loud, and the occasional discreet spread in Town & Country or Architectural Digest just doesn't quite get it.

As wealth becomes more fungible and oddly democratized, someone has to keep score, and to that end, Mr. Binn and his partners stand ready to chronicle fabulousness at every fund-raiser, award show and seasonal fete. Everybody looked great and had a wonderful time, and he has the pictures to prove it.

I have been to the Hamptons exactly once in my life, and I was there for work. On that trip, I also attended the annual Memorial Day party given by Mr. Binn and his wife at their home. Three months later, on page 134 of the September 1, 2006 issue of the Hamptons, there was the picture of me with my wife, my daughter and a friend. I don't remember much about the party, but in the photo, we are sporting the smiles of the privileged, apparently happy just to be in the picture.

Jason Binn's Niche Media (Gotham, Hamptons, and other society magazines) usually throws huge parties. Massive Manhattan clubs are routinely packed with New York's social elite courtesy of Gotham. After all, big parties make good pictures. On Tuesday, June 13, Binn and his summer-centric brand, Hamptons, tried something new.

"It's the first time we've done something a little more intimate, and we've started it with Kevin,"said Binn, who seemed as at ease in a small room as a big one, his usual habitat.

At the Friar's ClubÑthe hallowed hall of New York comedy, 57 E. 55th St.ÑBinn, Kevin Connolly, star of HBO's Entourage, and Hamptons editor, Cindi Cook hosted a mere 30 of their nearest and dearest for cocktails, questions, and dinner celebrating the Connolly cover (he appears on the cover of the latest Hamptons issue-it's his first magazine cover appearance).

During the Q&A, Connolly was asked about the future of his series (predictably), but gave away little. He was also asked several questions about the much-discussed Sopranos series finale.

"He [David Chase, executive producer] wasn't going to end it in a way people were going to guess,"said Connolly in the middle of a diatribe about the meaning of the final scene during which he displayed an encyclopedic knowledge of the show.

But we guess that it's moot to this HBO insider: "They're going to make a movie out of it, anyway."

Hot Hamptons Happenings began this weekend as glamorous Manhattanites journey on their exodus to the hot Hamptons in search of fun in the sun, shopping in expensive upscale boutiques, fabulous parties and celebrities. Memorial Day Weekend marks the beginning of fabulous social events in the Hamptons until Labor Day. CEO and publisher Jason Binn of glossy Hamptons Magazine had its 7th annual kickoff Barbecue at his palatial home in South Hampton. The magazine boast their impressive demographics of upscale readers are young urban professionals age 33, have a home worth $2.6 million, spend a small fortune on apparel approximately $25,000 annually, drive Bentleys, Aston Martins, Ferraris, Hummers, Jaguars and Maseratis.

This years Hot Hamptons Barbecue was hosted by gorgeous supermodel Christie Brinkley who is also the latest cover girl of this month's issue.

Christie states in the magazine that her three kids are the most important part of her life - Alexa Ray Joel, 21, Jack, 11 and Sailor 8. "One of the most wonderful things about being a parent is that you're born with your interest and your visions, then you have people in your life that you love so much, and they bring you their own view of the world," she revealed. Christie also states in the magazine that spirituality and practicing yoga have helped her coped through the journey of life. "I find that I hear my yoga instructor's voice very often," said Brinkley.who recent underwent back surgery as a result of a skiing accident,

For therapy and to relieve stress Ms Brinkley is painting, creating art, and taking photos.

One of the most beautiful faces to be photographed on the cover of a magazine, Christie Brinkley was born Christie Lee Hudson on February 4, 1954 in the upscale beachy town of movie stars and celebrities, Malibu California. Beautiful Brinkley personified the Malibu blonde California girl.

Her father was a television writer, who worked on shows such as The Virginian and The Man From U.N.C.L.E. At the young age of 18, Christie moved to Paris and enrolled in an art School. She began working as an illustrator after graduating and then fame struck. Christie was discovered by an American photographer on the fashionable streets of Paris. She was hesitant about leaving her creative job as an illustrator to become a high fashion model for the prestigious Ford Modeling Agency. After much consideration she decided on the career change.

Every high fashion models dreams of signing a cosmetic deal, such is the case with Christie when she signed a sweet deal with the cosmetic line Cover Girl in 1976. The socialite magazine mogul and family invited friends of the magazine, celebrities on loan from New York, and cover star Christie Brinkley into their Southampton home for an afternoon of drinks, music and finger food...for the adults.

For the kids, who were "more than welcome," according to the invitation, Hamptons manufactured a carnival on the Binns' front lawn: an ice-cream truck, a cotton candy station, a tent with magic, and rows of tiny tables and chairs with crayons, markers, construction paper and bubbles. An undiscovered and very talented face-painting artist turned many-a-vacationing child's face into Spiderman's...or something like it. Kid food was served, too. In the adult section, Russel Simmons, James Lipton, et al, rubbed elbows with Southampton social animals celebrating the start of summer with champagne, snacks, and as always pictures, pictures, pictures! As the min team left, the wine and champagne greeting station was restocked with candy Skittles, Jolly Ranchers, etc. We dipped a champagne flute into the Jolly Rancher vat, held it up against the setting sun to admire the color, and then drank deeply. Summer is here, and it's very sweet.

Kelly Ripa says the sands of time can't keep her out of swimsuit photo spreads -like this dazzler from Hamptons magazine. Even with three young kids, a 10-year marriage and a full-time job as TV's reigning sweetheart, the 35-year-old Ripa says she is landing more bikini shoots than ever.

"It's so weird, the older I get, the more people want to see me in a bathing suit," she tells the magazine."When I was 20, nobody would ever say, 'Can you do this photo shoot in a bikini?' So now, in my mid-30's, I'm always shocked by that."

Ripa also speaks about her two leading men -husband Mark Consuelos and "Live" co-host Regis Philbin. Ripa said Consuelos instantly caught her eye when they started working together on "All My Children." "I fell in love with him right away. He was really funny, smart, gorgeous, special, responsible, witty and charming," she said. "He makes me laugh more than anyone."

As for Regis, "We respond so well to each other that we never plan anything we say."

Stars light up the Hamptons

Forget about "X:Men: The Last Stand"- Kelsey Grammer is already looking forward to playing "Beast" in the sequel.

Given the boffo box-office number "The Last Stand" did over Memorial Day weekend, Grammer told Page Six that he fully expects Fox to order up a sequel, despite the seemingly finality of the film's title.

The former "Frasier" star ... whom we caught up with at a party in his honor at Hamptons magazine honcho Jason Binn's Southampton estate on Sunday also revealed that director Brett Ratner was still shooting scenes for "The Last Stand" only three weeks ago.

But perhaps the most notable nugget he shared with us was that Rebecca Romijn, who appears to be wearing only blue paint as the mutant Mystique ,"actually wears prosthetic breasts in the movie. Who knew?

Meanwhile, Russian-American princess Anna Anisimova, 21, swanned into the Hamptons magazine hoedown with her new boyfriend, David Weisser, 26 a nightclub owner from Miami.

Turning even more heads than the lovely Anisimova, but maybe in the other direction, was plastic surgery curiosity Jocelyn "Catwoman" Wildenstein, 60 who couldn't keep her paws off her boyfriend, 38-year-ol fashion designer Lloyd Klein. "They were holding hands, whispering into each other's ears and looking very affectionate," shuddered our source.

It was Anisimova who shattered the East End summer rental record by plunking down $635,000 to stay in a six-bedroom mansion on Cobb Road in Southampton. She might have been at Binn's party doing research for an over-the-top July 4 bash she's planning to host at her pricey pad. But almost as soon as her servants fish out the champagne flutes from the pool after her big blowout, the heiress and a posse of pals are off to St. Tropez for two weeks to party on her 325-foot yacht, "The Queen M."

Once summer is over, she'll move into her $15 million, 4,000 square-foot playpen on the 75th floor of the Time Warner Center, which we're told, she recently spent a few million to decorate.

JIM Belushi apologized for the title of his new book, "Real Men Don't Apologize," Tuesday night at Bed, where he was feted by Hamptons Magazine. Carrying on the Blues Brothers tradition started by his older brother John, Jim also played harmonica and sang with a blues band, sipped some whiskey and danced with female fans. Jim's wife, Jennifer Sloan, didn't seem to mind as she danced along with actor Peter Green, "Sopranos" star Federico Castellucio and movie producer Craig Cukrowski.
