WELCOME TO OUR FIRST GREEN ISSUE!
Being part of a community that so highly respects and values the land
and its natural beauty, we simply couldn’t resist putting out this edition.
While designing it, we learned a lot about living in a more eco-friendly
way—and found many surprises in the process. For example, we’d
planned to print this issue on recycled paper until we found out that recycled
magazine paper is actually more harmful to the environment (due to
the cleansing process used in its manufacture) than our regular paper
stock. Who’d have guessed?
This spring issue gives us a chance to catch up on all that’s happened
since last Thanksgiving, and helps ease us back into a summer state of
mind. Our biggest news since we parted ways five months ago? This
year marks our 30th anniversary! We’ll be celebrating all season long,
with cover parties and events, at barbecues, galas, polo matches, and
other sporting events (including the Hampton Classic, of course), and
we hope you’ll kick up your heels with us.
More news: We’ve expanded our coverage of Long Island’s Gold
Coast. Many Hamptonites swing through Americana Manhasset on
their way out East. We felt it was imperative to give this region more
attention, so we’ll be focusing on this affluent neighborhood four times
during the upcoming season. There are several great communities just
minutes from the shopping mecca. In this issue we explore Oyster Bay;
once the summer residence of Theodore Roosevelt, today this quaint
village is filled with delectable restaurants, amazing boutiques, and
impressive real estate.
Hamptons has been at the forefront of everything hot (and haute) for the
past three decades, but this promises to be our best year yet. Our pages
have always reflected the most fashionable people, places, and things, a
tradition we plan on continuing throughout our thirties (and beyond).
After all, no one knows how to celebrate better than Hamptons.
